Adobe is diving deeper into generative AI with its new Firefly Video Model, now available in beta across several tools, including Premiere Pro. The highlight? A new feature called Generative Extend, which lets creators tweak footage by extending clips by up to two seconds, fixing minor issues like shifting eye-lines or extending ambient sound. This AI tool is perfect for small adjustments that would otherwise require reshoots, and it's just one of the many exciting updates Adobe announced at its annual MAX conference.
Alongside video tools, Adobe is rolling out generative AI updates across Photoshop and Illustrator, powered by its Firefly Image 3 model. Photoshop now offers a generative workspace and better removal tools for cleaning up photos, while Illustrator introduces new time-saving features like Objects on Path for aligning elements more efficiently. Adobeās push into generative AI, coupled with its focus on ācommercially safeā models, shows it's eager to help creators work faster and smarter while ensuring ethical use of AI in its products.

Back in 2021, Morgan Neville thought using AI to recreate the late Anthony Bourdainās voice for his documentary would be a quirky Easter egg. Instead, it blew up in his face, sparking backlash and turning him into an accidental canary in Hollywoodās AI coal mine. Fast forward to his latest project, Piece by Piece, and Neville has completely sworn off the tech. āI havenāt used AI since, and I wonāt,ā he says. Misinformation, especially in storytelling, is something he takes seriouslyāAIās potential misuse has only cemented his stance.
His newest documentary, Piece by Piece, focuses on Pharrell Williams, telling the producerās story through interviews and Lego animation. Though creative, Nevilleās approach is decidedly AI-free. He painstakingly avoided it, even when constructing a soundbite from Carl Saganās voice, choosing to edit real syllables rather than rely on AI. For Neville, the evolution of AI has only made it scarier, and heās committed to exploring new, human-driven ways to tell stories.
