💻 Anthropic’s AI Now Controls Your Computer

Source: Financial Times

Anthropic, the AI startup supported by Google and Amazon, has introduced a new feature in its AI model Claude, enabling it to control actions on users' computers with consent. Known as the "Computer Use" feature, Claude can now perform tasks such as browsing the web, inputting text, and scheduling appointments, all designed to streamline everyday tasks by acting as a virtual assistant. This is part of a broader trend in AI development focused on creating agentic systems capable of handling routine, time-consuming tasks.

With this innovation, Anthropic is positioning itself alongside other AI giants like OpenAI and Microsoft, who are also advancing in this space. While still in its early stages, the technology aims to help users save time on repetitive tasks and focus on more creative work. Anthropic compares this evolution of AI to the development of self-driving cars, where trust is gradually built before handing over full control to the technology.

🤖 Do We Trust AI Storytelling?

Source: Public Domain

New research from the University of Florida reveals that people tend to dislike stories they believe are written by AI, even if the story was actually written by a human. In the study, participants rated AI-generated stories as nearly as good as those by human authors, but once told that the story was written by AI, their perception of the quality dropped. This suggests a bias against AI-generated art, regardless of its actual merit.

The study found that while AI-written stories are logical and coherent, they lack the emotional engagement and immersive quality, or "transportation," that human-authored stories provide. This bias could have important implications for fields like public health communication, where AI-generated narratives might be used to persuade audiences. Despite the growing narrative capabilities of AI, it seems human creativity still holds the edge in keeping readers fully captivated.
