Cerebras Systems, an AI chip startup, has filed for an IPO and plans to trade under the ticker symbol "CBRS" on the Nasdaq. Known for its WSE-3 chip, which boasts more cores and memory than Nvidiaās H100, Cerebras also offers cloud-based services powered by its own computing clusters. The company is growing fast but reported a net loss of $66.6 million on $136.4 million in sales for the first half of 2024. Despite the losses, Cerebras continues to attract attention in the crowded AI chip market.
Founded in 2016, Cerebras is backed by major investors like Foundation Capital, Benchmark, and Eclipse Ventures, along with high-profile names like OpenAIās Sam Altman and Sun Microsystems co-founder Andy Bechtolsheim. Its key customer, G42, a UAE-based AI firm, accounted for 83% of its revenue last year and has committed to purchasing over $1.4 billion in Cerebras products by 2025. With competition from giants like Nvidia and AMD, Cerebras is positioning itself as a strong contender in the rapidly growing AI space.
