OpenAI has unveiled an ambitious “blueprint for U.S. AI infrastructure,” proposing economic zones, nuclear power, and major public-private partnerships to accelerate the country’s AI capabilities. The plan includes incentives for states to speed up infrastructure projects and calls for a new “National Transmission Highway Act” to boost power and connectivity, reminiscent of the 1956 National Highways Act. The proposal also outlines using the Navy’s expertise in nuclear reactors to develop civilian modular reactors and predicts a surge in jobs and GDP growth through AI investments.

OpenAI’s vision includes a North American AI alliance to outpace China’s rapid advancements, with a focus on new U.S. data centers, solar farms, and wind facilities, particularly in the Midwest and Southwest. The goal is to make AI as foundational as electricity while meeting the massive energy demand—projected at 50 gigawatts by 2030. The strategy hinges on building a resilient AI ecosystem and aligning public research with industry needs, betting on infrastructure investment to help the U.S. maintain its competitive edge in the AI race against China.

Hailey Welch, the viral star behind the “Hawk Tuah” meme, is branching out from social media with her new AI-powered dating advice app, Pookie Tools. Launched on the App Store this week, the app targets Gen Z singles with features like an AI chatbot for date ideas and outfit recommendations, a zodiac compatibility check, and even feedback on dating profiles. While the concept feels fresh and fun, initial tests suggest that the chatbot’s advice lacks Welch’s signature humor, coming off as similar to existing AI tools like ChatGPT.

The app’s standout features include the playful (and slightly controversial) “Bald Predictor” and “Height Detector,” aimed at addressing common dating frustrations. Though meant to be lighthearted, these tools might rub some users the wrong way by reinforcing certain stigmas. Welch, however, stands by their intent, citing her own preferences as a 5’8” woman. Pookie Tools offers a subscription at $7 per week or $50 annually, with new features planned through collaborations with podcast guests like Whitney Cummings.
