Physical Intelligence, an ambitious AI start-up, just raised $400 million to develop a “generalist brain” capable of powering any robot, a step away from the conventional model of building software for specific tasks. The funding round was led by Amazon's Jeff Bezos, along with major players like Thrive Capital and Lux Capital, bringing the company’s valuation close to $2 billion. Co-founded by former Google scientist Karol Hausman, Berkeley professor Sergey Levine, and ex-Stripe exec Lachy Groom, Physical Intelligence aims to create software that would enable robots to perform diverse real-world tasks — think folding laundry, clearing tables, and flattening boxes.
The company’s software, π0 (pi-zero), has shown impressive flexibility, though it’s still in early stages compared to more advanced AI like OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Hausman describes it as a true “generalist” in the robotics world, one that compiles its own data to navigate the complex demands of real-world environments. The robotics AI field is heating up, with competitors like Skild, Figure AI, and Covariant all chasing similar goals. Big names like Amazon and Tesla are also ramping up their robotics ambitions, envisioning robots as game-changing products for the future.

Amazon has rolled out X-Ray Recaps, a new AI-powered feature on Prime Video designed to create quick, spoiler-free summaries for its original series. Viewers can access summaries by season, episode, or even by specific scenes, making it easy to catch up on memorable plot points without losing track of where they last left off. Currently available in beta for Fire TV users in the U.S., X-Ray Recaps initially supports popular series like The Boys, Upload, Daisy Jones & The Six, and The Wheel of Time, with more device support expected by year-end.
Powered by Amazon Bedrock and custom AI models on Amazon SageMaker, X-Ray Recaps pulls from video segments, subtitles, and dialogue to generate detailed descriptions of key events. This new tool joins Prime Video’s other X-Ray features, which provide behind-the-scenes trivia, cast info, and production details, all accessible during playback. According to Adam Gray, Prime Video’s VP of Product, the feature aims to help viewers quickly reconnect with the series they love and make it easier to dive back into content without the hassle of scrolling or rewatching.
